The Watauga County Farmers' Market, in Boone - about 20 minutes from local Banner Elk bed and breakfasts, returns for the season May 5, and with it a “Pancakes in the Park” breakfast fundraiser for Mountain Alliance. Banner Haven would like to support the Famers' Market by providing this as the breakfast option for guests staying this weekend.
The student organization will serve scrambled eggs, bacon, pancakes and Bald Guy coffee between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. under the pavilion at the Horn in the West park.
Plates are $6 (cash or check), and children younger than 5 eat free.
The fundraiser benefits Mountain Alliance, a program at Watauga High School that provides a safe and supportive environment in which students can develop an increased sense of self and their place in the community, a passion for lifelong learning and a commitment to environmental stewardship.
Specifically, the breakfast benefits Rolling Academy, an annual summer expedition for 10 WHS students that focuses on individual growth and group development through expeditionary learning.
The selected students do not pay tuition but help raise funds through the Pancakes in the Park breakfasts.
Mountain Alliance also recognizes several sponsors of Rolling Academy, which include Mast General Store, Earth Fare, Reid's Catering, Bald Guy Brew and Jim Wagner, who provides the eggs served at the breakfast.
Visit http://rollingacademy.org or call (828) 263-1770 for more information or to donate to Mountain Alliance.
